PowerBank Pass / Travel guide

The 2027 change.
The scope matters.

An industry standard is important evidence. It is not a substitute for your airline’s dated policy.

2026

Current airline policy

Some carriers permit power banks above 100 Wh up to 160 Wh with approval. Others already prohibit them or publish conflicting wording.

1 JAN 2027

IATA standard changes

The 68th edition removes the 100–160 Wh power-bank allowance. IATA’s guidance distinguishes the standard from state and airline implementation.

Confirm adoption

We have not verified every airline’s 2027 implementation. A future-date result shows this uncertainty instead of claiming one universal legal ban.

What the source establishes

IATA’s guidance, dated 31 March 2026, explains the 2026 addendum and the 2027 edition. It is an industry-standard source, not proof that every jurisdiction or carrier enforces identical rules on the same day.

Before you commit to a larger bank

  1. Read its actual Wh rating, not just the mAh or output watts.
  2. Find the operating airline’s policy for the travel date.
  3. Request written clarification or approval when required. Keep the airline’s reply.
