My power bank says 65 W or 165 W. Is that too much?
W describes power: how quickly it can charge. Wh describes stored energy, which airlines use for the capacity limit. A 65 W output rating does not mean 65 Wh. Find the Wh figure on the device; if it only lists mAh, use the battery’s nominal voltage, not the USB output voltage.

Can I fly with 20,000 mAh?
At a nominal 3.7 V, 20,000 mAh equals 74 Wh. That calculation alone is not permission to fly: check the printed label, airline count limit, condition and any local requirements. If no voltage is known, 72–77 Wh is only an illustrative estimate using 3.6–3.85 V; other battery chemistries can differ.

Is 26,800 mAh under 100 Wh?
It is 99.16 Wh at 3.7 V, but 103.18 Wh at 3.85 V. That difference crosses a policy boundary. Use the Wh printed on the bank or calculate from its actual nominal cell voltage. Do not round a value over 100 down to 100.

The label has rubbed off. Will a photo or receipt work?
Do not assume it will. Cebu Pacific says unclear or missing specifications can lead to refusal. A receipt, product page or saved photo may help you explain the model, but the sources we checked do not guarantee these will replace a readable label on the device. Ask your operating airline before departure.

I connect in China. Do I need the 3C mark?
The cited airline notices apply the 3C requirement to domestic flights within mainland China, including a domestic leg inside an international itinerary. An international arrival or departure alone does not establish that requirement. Check every flight segment, your security route and the physical mark; a missing or unclear mark is a problem for a domestic leg.

Which airline do I choose for a codeshare flight?
Start with the airline shown as “operated by” on your booking. Add each flight separately. The airline that sold the ticket and your destination country do not by themselves tell you the onboard rule. Confirm a codeshare or unusual connection with the operating airline if its published policy is unclear.

If I can bring it, can I use it on the plane?
Carriage, charging your phone from the bank, and recharging the bank from seat power are different rules. Singapore Airlines prohibits both kinds of charging. Qatar permits supervised use to charge a device during non-critical phases, with conditions, but prohibits recharging the bank. Check your flight’s own policy.

My cabin bag is being checked at the gate. What now?
Remove every power bank before the bag goes into the hold and keep it in cabin baggage. The FAA explicitly includes gate-checked bags in its lithium-battery guidance. Tell staff immediately if you realise a bank has already gone into a checked bag.

Where do I put it if there is no seat pocket?
Check your airline’s storage instructions and ask the crew, especially at a bulkhead or exit row. Singapore Airlines says power banks should stay in a seat pocket or under the seat, not the overhead bin. Do not assume a seat pocket is available or that placing a bank loose on the floor is acceptable.

Do gifts and unopened power banks count?
For departures from Singapore, yes. Changi’s guidance counts power banks in retail packaging, including airport purchases, within the total limit of two per passenger. It is not two small banks plus two large ones. Your airline can be stricter; check other departure airports separately.

Does a MagSafe battery or battery phone case count?
A detachable battery used to charge a phone is a power bank even when it connects wirelessly. Changi explicitly includes battery phone cases in its power-bank guidance. It distinguishes these from a phone with reverse charging or a laptop. Check the device’s function, not just its marketing name.

What about camera batteries, smart luggage or CPAP?
This checker covers ordinary portable lithium-ion power banks only. Camera spares, installed batteries, mobility aids and medical equipment have separate rules. Qatar, for example, lists a specific exception for batteries removed from smart luggage. For CPAP and other medical devices, use your airline’s medical-equipment process and obtain any required approval.

How do I know whether my model is recalled?
Check the manufacturer’s official recall page using the exact model and, when required, serial or batch number. The FAA prohibits damaged or recalled batteries likely to create a dangerous evolution of heat. This site does not maintain a complete model-by-model recall database; a green capacity result is not a recall check.

It is getting very hot, swelling or smoking. What should I do?
Notify cabin crew immediately if a battery or device overheats, expands, smokes or burns. Follow the crew’s instructions.

The official pages disagree. Which one should I trust?
Do not treat a forum success story as an exemption. Check whether the pages describe the same device, date and flight, then ask the operating airline for written clarification. We retain the conflicting sources and show “Rules need clarification” rather than silently choosing the more permissive page.

Does the 2027 IATA change ban every bank over 100 Wh worldwide?
IATA’s guidance says its 2027 Dangerous Goods Regulations remove the 100–160 Wh power-bank allowance. It also distinguishes the international standard from implementation and enforcement by states and airlines. We have not verified every airline’s 2027 adoption. For a future flight, confirm the operating airline’s published policy instead of treating the standard as universal law.

Can I keep the result if I have no connection at the airport?
Yes. Run the trip checker and choose “Save trip card”. It downloads a self-contained HTML file with your inputs, each flight’s result, source links and check dates. Open the file before travelling to check that it works on your device. It is a saved reference, not airline approval, and it will not update itself.
